On Sunday around noon, a corpse that matched the description of Yeon-Su Kim was discovered close to the Mayan Palace hotel after a thorough search effort involving land, air, and water resources.
“The terrible death of Yeon-Su has been verified following days of search and rescue attempts. The hunt for Corey is still ongoing, the president of Northern Arizona University, Cruz Rivera, tweeted on Monday.
Playa Encanto, comprising La Pinta, Las Conchas, and the hotel complex known as the Mayan Palace, had been examined by them.
American volunteers had also helped with the search and had “hope & firm plans of obtaining favorable results as soon as possible.”
The duo had reportedly gone kayaking on Playa Encanto, a nearby beach about 11 miles from the hotel, according to the Puerto Peasco administration’s statement on Saturday.
The couple and their kayaks haven’t been seen since he went back to aid Kim. The couple’s little daughter, according to Alan Ontiveros, director of local civil protection, was left in the care of relatives who had traveled to the city.
