Mikhail Varshavski was born on November 12, 1989, in Saransk, Soviet Union.
His Father worked as a physician, while his mother was a math professor. When he was five years old, he and his parents relocated to Brooklyn, New York City, USA.
He was raised in the middle of his family’s financial difficulties. The family was living in a one-bedroom apartment and was struggling to make ends meet.
His Father had to attend medical school since his degree from the Soviet Union was not recognized in the United States, and his mother accepted a sweeping job floor.
Because he could not understand English then, the physician struggled to adjust to American life. It’s a typical scenario of an immigrant who needs to battle and strive to live, he says.
Dr. Mike’s mother died of leukemia while he was in his first year of family medicine residency at Atlantic Health System Overlook Medical Center. His mother was a mathematics professor at a Russian University.
Mike, living alone at the time of his mother’s death, went back to his Father’s House to console him. His Father motivated him. His Father is also a doctor, having graduated from Moscow’s Third Medical Institute after overcoming adversity.
