Susan Alexandra Weaver was born in New York City on October 8, 1949.
Her mother, Elizabeth Inglis, was an English actress from Colchester, England. According to reports, the actress does not have a sister.
Sylvester “Pat” Weaver Jr., Weaver’s father, was a Los Angeles-born American television producer who was president of NBC from 1953 to 1955 and launched NBC’s Today Show in 1952.
Pat’s brother, Winstead “Doodles” Weaver, was a comedian and Mad contributor. Her father’s American family was of Dutch, English, Scots-Irish, and Scottish origin.
Weaver began using Sigourney at 14, taking it from a minor character in The Great Gatsby.
She enrolled at Sarah Lawrence College after returning to the United States. After her first year, she transferred to Stanford University as an English major.
She skipped Stanford’s drama department because she thought their productions were “stuffy” and “safe.”
