The parents of Kanoa Igarashi moved from Japan to Huntington Beach where they reared their two kids, one of whom has consistently competed for the world surfing title.
With Kanoa being chosen to represent Japan in the first surfing competition of the Olympic Games this summer, the whole family’s story appears to be coming full circle.
He now seems to think that his present goals are a testament to the struggles his parents had to immigrate to America. He may do it most effectively by choosing to go on the WSL Championship tour as Japan’s representative.
According to Kanoa’s father, Tsutomu Igarashi, it is such an unbelievable tale that Kanoa will represent Japan in surfing at their beach.
