Wrestling is a physically demanding sport that puts a lot of stress on the body, so it is not uncommon for athletes to experience injuries or other health issues related to the sport.
Likewise, the Iowa Wrestler, Spencer Lee, is also going through some health issues recently which has affected his game.
On 18th March 2023, Iowa announced that Spencer wouldn’t compete for the third position and has taken the decision to medically forfeit.
The University of Iowa shared the statement on Saturday morning saying, “It has been a long journey of a speedy recovery for Spencer Lee. He is going to medically forfeit out of the 2023 NCAA Wrestling Championships today in Tulsa.”
On Saturday morning, Spencer was scheduled to fight against Arizona State’s Brandon Courtney in the consolation semifinals.
Since his senior year of high school, the wrestler has fought numerous knee injuries, competing for a whole season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament and taking home his third national championship after tearing the other one.
To have his ACLs in both knees repaired at the beginning of January 2022, he skipped the previous season.
