Bukayo Saka is a Yoruba ethnic or tribal member of Nigeria. The word “bukayo” is derived from the Yoruba language, which is extensively used in southern Nigeria, and it means “adds to happiness.” Mostly found in southwest Nigeria, southern Benin, eastern Togo, West Africa, Brazil, and Cuba are members of this ethnic group.
His parents, Yomi and Adenike Saka immigrated to London in the 1990s for economic grounds from Nigeria. Saka, who was born in England but had Nigerian ancestry, had the option of playing for either Nigeria or England but opted for the latter. He joins the ranks of players like Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori who have chosen to remain with England, as opposed to Alex Iwobi and Victor Moses. They have recently relocated to Nigeria.
