Rapper Doechii’s gender identity has changed over time and is a matter of personal expression. In response, she was ascribed the gender “female” from birth. Similar questions have been raised over Doechii’s identity as a transgender person and member of the LGBTQIA+ community. She has, nevertheless, been open about being queer.
Still, cisgender people in the music industry and beyond, along with non-binary and gender non-conforming people, have found solace in Doechii’s songs. She has been a significant voice in the continuing discussion around gender diversity and inclusivity in the entertainment industry by using her platform to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and visibility.
Globally, her songs such as “What It Is” and “Yucky Blucky Fruitcake” have garnered immense admiration. Additionally, a lot of people used the latter song to showcase their weight changes and glow-ups. Furthermore, a lot of trans men and trans women used Yucky Bluck Fruitcake to demonstrate their transitions.
Under the direction of Chris Turner (A & R), Doechii made waves in the music world in March 2022 when she signed with Capitol Records. She became the first female rapper under Top Dawg Entertainment when she signed on.
