According to recent news, Carolyn Bryant Donham died in Louisiana at 88.
Donham was the woman whose false accusation of Emmett Till in 1955 led to his lynching and death.
After the 1955 murder trial of Emmett Till, Carolyn Bryant Donham went on to live a relatively quiet life. She and her husband, Roy Bryant, divorced in 1979, and she later remarried and changed her last name.
For many years, Donham remained out of the public eye, but in 2008, filmmaker Keith Beauchamp attempted to track her down for a documentary about Till’s murder.
In 2017, historian Timothy Tyson published his book “The Blood of Emmett Till,” which included a detailed interview with Donham.
In the interview, Donham admitted that her trial testimony, which accused Till of making verbal and physical advances towards her, was false. She also revealed that Till had not threatened her in any way and that her testimony had been a lie.
Following the release of Tyson’s book, there was some public outcry and calls for Donham to face charges for her role in Till’s murder.
Since then, she has been out of the public eye, but recent news of her death has made people want to learn about her condition before it ends.
