Tyrann Devine Mathieu was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on May 13, 1992, and except for his biological parents, he enjoyed a childhood spent with his entire family.
Initially reared by his grandparents, he was adopted by his aunt Sheila Mathieu, and uncle Tyrone Mathieu upon the passing of his grandfather.
Mathieu attended St. Augustine High School, where he developed an interest in athletics, after growing up in the city. In addition to sprinting track and field, he participated in the St. Augustine Purple Knights high school football relay team.
Tyrann Mathieu achieved her high school diploma with an exceptional athletic record, which included ranking among the state’s top long jumpers and establishing personal records in the long jump (25 meters) (7.29 meters) and high jump (1.93 meters).
In 2010, he accumulated 32 tackles, one rush, and five interceptions as a senior and was a four-star recruit in football. Additionally, he was ranked No. 13 in the nation at cornerback.
Regardless of a difficult upbringing, Tyrann Mathieu managed to complete high school. He attended St. Augustine High School, where he was a member of the St. Augustine Purple Knights football team.
Mathieu subsequently transferred to Louisiana State University, where he participated in the Les Miles’ LSU Tigers football program from 2010 to 2011.
