Gilda Carter, Troy’s mother, gave birth to him in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on November 14, 1972. His upbringing was in West Philadelphia. He lost both of his parents when he was two years old.
He went to a lot of schools, such as Sayre Middle, West Philadelphia High, and Huey Elementary. At the age of 17, he left high school to pursue a career in music. When he was seven years old, his father received a murder conviction and a 12-year prison sentence.
