Tom Monaghan, the renowned entrepreneur and philanthropist, was born on March 25, 1937, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. However, his early life was marked by tragedy and adversity. At the age of four, Tom’s father passed away, leaving him and his younger brother in the care of an orphanage.
Determined to pursue a different path, Tom Monaghan enrolled in St. Joseph’s Seminary with aspirations of becoming a priest. Unfortunately, his journey took an unexpected turn as he was later expelled from the seminary.
Fortune had other plans for Tom when, in 1956, a twist of fate led him to accidentally enlist in the US Marine Corps. Tom served diligently and earned an honorable discharge a few years later.
