Despite being well-known for his comedic work, Seth MacFarlane is also a serious politician. While building a multibillion-dollar entertainment empire centered on the Fox animated sitcom “Family Guy,” Seth has subtly emerged as one of Hollywood’s most significant political fundraisers of his era.
MacFarlane contributed to the Democratic Party for the first time in 2005. When he was 31 years old, he wrote a check for $2,500 to the Congressional Campaign Committee. His contributions, which now amount to more than $4.6 million, increased along with his notoriety.
MacFarlane has primarily given to Democratic political action committees while endorsing only a small number of politicians individually. Early on, Seth backed Barack Obama’s first run for president. In a similar vein, he gave $2,700 to Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign in 2015.
Two political action organizations backing Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign received more than $716,700 from him a year later. Additionally, Seth gave $200,000 to the Human Rights Campaign’s Equality Votes initiative in 2016. He wrote the check as support for lawmakers who were in favor of gay marriage.
