Acting has long interested Roman Polanski, who later decided to look for work in that field. He made several movie appearances, including 1954’s “Pokolenie,” “Zaczarowany Rower,” and many others.
He made his international debut with the short “Rower,” an autobiographical feature film in which he also acted. Generally speaking, Polanski made his directing debut with the drama film “Knife in the Water,” which had only three actors, in 1962.
He helmed the 1965 British psychological horror film “Repulsion,” which stars John Fraser, Catherine Deneuve, and Ian Hendry. He also worked on the 1992 romantic suspense film “Bitter Moon” with Hugh Grant, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Peter Coyote. Another big hit he had in 2002 was “The Pianist,” one of his more illustrious movies.
