On March 5, 1979, in Coudersport, Pennsylvania, Riki Lindhome was born. Riki grew up and finished high school in Portville, New York. She later graduated from Syracuse University with a bachelor’s degree in communications and film.
Lindhome won first prize in the 1997 JFK Profiles in Courage essay competition held by the John F. Kennedy Library. US Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) was Lindhome’s subject. She was so outraged by the shooting death of her husband and five other people on a Long Island train that she ran for and won the seat occupied by her congressman, who had voted to repeal the Federal Assault Weapons Ban.
