Former Australian bowler Greg Campbell has a nephew named Ricky Ponting.
On May 30, 2008, in Antigua against the West Indies, Ponting surpassed 10,000 runs in Test cricket. He broke the record, becoming the third Australian cricketer to do so. Allan Border and Steve Waugh reached the 10,000 mark before he did.
Ponting is the second-highest run-scorer in Test cricket, behind Sachin Tendulkar. In 167 Tests, he has amassed 13,366 runs.
