He was born in Barstow, California, in the United States to his caring and loving parents. He is the proud son of Richard John Steves who worked as a high school band director and piano technician and June Erna Steves. Rick’s mother, June Erna, was born to Norwegian immigrants Harold and Erna Fremmerlid. Rick has two sisters named Jan who is an Iditarod racer and Linda. His family went to Edmonds, Washington in 1967.
