Nico Gonzalez began his football career with local club Montaneros CF at the age of seven, and in December 2012, he agreed to a move to FC Barcelona’s reserves, where he made his senior debut as a late substitute for Kike Saverio in a 1-2 Segunda Division B away loss to CD Castellon on May 19, 2019, at the age of 16.
From November 2020 onwards in the 2020-2021 season, he was a member of the “Juvenil A” before starting to play frequently for the B-team. On the 12th of May 2021, he extended his contract until 2024, with a € 500 million buyout clause, and made his first team and La Liga debut on the 15th of August, replacing Sergio Busquets in the 2021-2022 La Liga season’s opening game, a 4-2 win against Real Sociedad.
In addition, on December 12, 2021, he made his professional debut, scoring the opening goal in a 2-2 away tie against CA Osasuna.
