The year 1982 saw Tyson Gay’s birth in Lexington, Kentucky. Both his mother Daisy and his grandmother competed for Eastern Kentucky University when they were younger, albeit Daisy’s first child was born when she was only beginning her adolescence.
His older sister Tiffany was a competitive sprinter who excelled in high school. Tyson and Tiffany, who were motivated by their mother to compete, trained diligently at school and on nearby horses.
They were found to be in healthy competition, and Gay subsequently recalled that his sister’s quick thinking helped him to recover.
