Blake Griffin is a Christian, according to Griffin. He displays his faith in God, but he does so from a highly modern standpoint. Since no one is more knowledgeable in religion than I am, I’ll just say that Griffin reminds me of many of my friends who are deeply devout while also being modern or progressive.
He discusses his desire to have faith in something greater than this world and his challenge to comprehend those who condemn others, whether they are poor, LGBT, or for any other reason. Griffin played two seasons of collegiate basketball for the Sooners before being selected by the Clippers in the 2009 NBA Draft.
He underwent surgery after breaking his left kneecap in the final preseason game of 2009, missing the 2009–10 campaign. The following year, Griffin made his NBA debut as a rookie and went on to earn Rookie of the Year, NBA Slam Dunk Contest, and All-Star honors. He was selected by Sports Illustrated in 2011 as one of the NBA’s 15 Greatest Rookies of All Time.
