He has served as the White House Adviser to four United States Presidents both from the Republican and Democrat Parties; Nixon, Ford, Reagan, and Clinton. He has documented his experiences while working at the White House in the New York Bestseller; Eyewitness to Power: The Essence of Leadership, Nixon to Clinton (Simon & Schuster, 2001).
In the book, David also argues that the success of the USA in the 21st century will depend on the success of the new generation in power. Based on his experiences while working at the White House, he has drawn the seven elements that future leaders should possess which include: a central, compelling purpose rooted in moral values; inner mastery; a capacity to persuade; an ability to work within the system; a passion that inspires others to carry on the mission; strong, prudent advisers, and a sure, quick start. David is currently working on a new book about renewing America’s political culture.
