Her first solo museum exhibition features a new video installation, Flatwing, as well as related works on paper. Madeline’s work is inspired by the everyday movement patterns that she observes in the natural environment, Social environment, Urban environment, and technology. Madeline then transforms them into site-specific installations and performances.
Madeline’s first video installation, Flatwing (2019), explores the emergence of silent crickets in Kauai, Hawaii, as well as the imminent extinction of their chirping rivals. The film guides all the viewers through her expedition through Kauai’s cacophonous rainforest nightscape, as well as her futile attempt to record the movements of the elusive new species.
The video installation is also accompanied by a display of diagrams, drawings, and also research materials that are created by the artist in the process of making the film. Madeline’s Flatwing is organized by Chrissie Iles, Anne, and Joel Ehrenkranz Curator. The senior curatorial assistant is Clémence White. The Flatwing is provided by The Rosenkranz Foundation as the major support for Madeline. Also, the Artists Council provides major support.
