Wilder was conceived after the country singer and his ex-fiancée had already separated. They are no longer together but are co-parenting their son.
In his first post about his son, Wallen had already spoken about being the co-parent Smith deserved. He has also shared what it’s like to raise a son with her. When speaking with Radio.com back in September 2020, Wallen revealed he was spending as much time with Wilder as his ex-fiancée let him.
To better tackle the challenges of fatherhood, Wallen has relied on his parents, Tommy and Lesli, who joined him in Nashville to take care of their grandson. The country singer also admitted to People that co-parenting like this wasn’t how he imagined he would raise his child.
[Being a single dad] is definitely not how I imagined parenthood. I wanted to have a family like my parents. My parents are still together, you know. They raised [me and my sisters] together.
While his parenting experience differs vastly from what he had in mind, he and Smith have worked together through the entire process.
