Frank Lucas, born on September 9, 1930, in La Grange, North Carolina, USA, was one of the world’s wealthiest and most powerful drug traffickers.
Bumpy Johnson, another high-flying Harlem criminal, took Frank under his wing. After Johnson died, Frank took matters into his own hands and began working on new drug-trafficking schemes.
His main goal was to break the Italian mafia’s monopoly, and he was successful. However, Frank was apprehended by the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) in 1976 and sentenced to 70 years in prison, but he only served five years before being released in 1981.
However, in 1984, he was arrested again and sentenced to seven years in prison. He was released in 1991 and spent the rest of his life in Puerto Rico attempting to lead a “normal” life.
After a serious car accident in which his legs were broken, he was confined to a wheelchair in his later years. He died of natural causes on May 30, 2019, in Cedar Grove, New Jersey.
