Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston are two highly talented and admired vocalists. But, the music legends are not related.
The two singers were acquaintances and friends from the music world and dueted on multiple occasions. They collaborated on a 1998 song called When You Believe.
The song received the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 71st ceremony in 1999.
Before their performance at the Oscars, Mariah and Whitney sang it on The Oprah Winfrey Show in November 1998.
There were rumors that the two had a big feud, but Mariah denied the speculations and said the “feud” rumors were only the media looking for Drama.
She said that she and Houston did not know each other previously but became thick as thieves after they worked together in 1998.
Following Houston’s death, Mariah said on Good Morning America in 2012, “I loved her. We all loved her. May she rest in peace… her legend will go on forever.”
