Diane Downs has not reported any serious health issues in recent years, although she did contract COVID-19 in early 2020, along with many other inmates at her prison.

She recovered from the virus after resting for a few days and drinking plenty of water.

She said that her boss at the prison workshop, where she refurbishes bicycles for underprivileged children, probably saved her life by telling her to take a break when she showed symptoms.

Diane Downs has also maintained contact with her brother, James Frederickson, who occasionally visits her and sends her emails.

She has expressed concern for the well-being of her surviving children, Christie and Danny, who are now adults living in Oregon.

She has not seen them since they testified against her at her trial when they were 8 and 4 years old respectively.

They were adopted by the lead prosecutor, Fred Hugi, and his wife Joanne, who changed their names to Jennifer and James Hugi.

Diane Downs also gave birth to another daughter, Amy Elizabeth, in 1984, shortly after her sentencing. She was adopted by Chris and Jackie Babcock, who renamed her Rebecca Babcock.
