On January 30, 1974, in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, Christian Charles Philip Bale was born to English parents Jenny James, a circus performer, and David Bale, an entrepreneur and campaigner.
Sharon, Louise, and Erin, a half-sister from his Father’s first marriage, are his two older sisters.
One of his grandfathers was a comedian, and the other served as John Wayne’s stand-in.
When Bale was two years old, his family emigrated from Wales, first to Portugal and then to Oxfordshire, England, before settling in Bournemouth.
By the time he was 15, the family had already lived in 15 different towns, and Bale recognized that this had a significant impact on his decision to pursue a career in acting.
Bale described the constant relocation as being motivated by “necessity more than choice.”
He went to Bournemouth School, subsequently claiming to have dropped out at the age of 16.
Bale’s parents separated in 1991, and when he was 17, he relocated to Los Angeles with his sister Louise and their Father.
