Ilhan Omar was born in Somalia and spent her early years there before her family fled the country’s civil conflict and spent four years in a refugee camp in Kenya.
She was reared in the Minneapolis region as a child after coming to the country.
She had two previous marriages, the first to Ahmed Hirsi in 2018 and the second to Tim Mynett in March 2020.
Tim Mynett, a political strategist whose Company, the E Street Group, received $2.78 million in contracts from Omar’s Campaign during the 2020 cycle.
Her Democratic primary rival and Republican opponents focused their criticism on the Campaign’s contract with Mynett’s firm, which attracted a lot of local and national media attention.
