Born in August 1962, the San Antonio, Texas native, got his first shot at fame in his early ’20s. No, literally! Borrego’s first notable role was that of Jesse V. Valesquez on the television series Fame. He portrayed the character from 1984 to 1987.
The Native American actor landed the role the same year he graduated from California Institute of Arts. Before that, Borrego graduated from Harlandale High School and studied Theatre and Dance at The University of Incarnate Word.
Since gaining popularity with the role, Borrego delivered standout performances on stage and in films such as Blood In, Blood Out, and Follow Me Home, up until he began Lupita Productions in 1990.
With the production house, he got occupied as a producer. And, he produced theatrical productions and concerts. Additionally, Lupita made two 16mm short films: El Suendo de Simon in 1993 by James Borrego and Flattime in 1995 by Jimmy Santiago Baca.
