About his hatred for the name Fred, he retained it because “Fred Norris” was the moniker by which the general public called him.
Howard asked whether anyone had named Fred by his legally altered name, Eric, on the November 13, 2006, episode. Fred answered that no one ever addressed him as Eric. That was not the reason he changed his name in the first place, he maintained. Howard stated his astonishment as to why Fred went to such extremes to officially change his name when no one named him Eric. Fred claimed that he took the decision because he had a tense connection with his father.
