He works as the CEO and founder of Automattic, an internet company whose brands are WordPress.com, Akismet, Gravatar, VaultPress, IntenseDebate, Crowdsignal, and Tumblr.
In January 2006, matt recruited former Oddpost CEO and Yahoo! executive Toni Schneider to join Automattic as CEO, bringing the size of the company to 5. An April 2007 Regulation D filing showed that Automattic had around $1.1 million. Its investors were Polaris Ventures, True Ventures, Radar Partners, and CNET.
In January 2008, Automattic had an additional $29.5 million for the company from Polaris Venture Partners, True Ventures, Radar Partners, and the New York Times Company. By January 2014 Matt became CEO of Automattic. Toni Schneider went on to work on new projects at Automattic.
