The meme was inspired by the Japanese anime Neon Genesis Evangelion. It is a popular Japanese animated series that debuted in 1995.
Asuka Langley Soryu is a key character in the anime. Gainax developed her character. She was the inspiration for the meme because she frequently uses the phrase throughout the series.
There’s even a meme shared by the KFC account wishing Asuka a “Feliz Jueves.”
