Myers claimed that he felt pressured to adopt a false persona from a young age because he is gay. He said that having a spouse would enable him to experience his “supposed” emotions.
He stated that he became Christian at the age of 13 and became a fervent evangelist.
Myers and Lung moved in together shortly and started going on trips frequently. Myers adopted odd jobs that didn’t require identification and constructed numerous aliases.
Kirsten, his 30-year-old daughter, struggled the entire time that Eric’s family was left to live without them to avoid thinking about her father’s absence. She looked for ways to lessen her suffering.
His life narrative has received mixed reviews in the media, with many questioning his justifications and asking whether it is acceptable to abandon one’s children.
But he is by no means the only person to have run away from his family only to come back years later.
The youngest daughter, Kirsten Myers Ruggiano, told ABC that “I know a lot of [gay] people who would never do this and would never blame it on their homosexuality.” I don’t believe he is capable of loving anyone but himself.
