Discover the essential facts surrounding Deb Haaland in this special report.

Deb Haaland is an enrolled member of the Laguna Pueblo tribe, which has lived on the land that is now New Mexico since the 1200s. Deb identifies as a 35th-generation New Mexican, but her mother, Mary Toya, is a native American woman, and her father, Major J. D. “Dutch” Haaland, is a Norwegian American.

Deb’s parents both served in the military. Her mother served in the United States Navy, and her father was a Marine Corps officer who received the Silver Star for his actions in Vietnam. When he died in 2005, he was given a full military burial at Arlington National Cemetery.

Meanwhile, little is known about Deb’s siblings, who include three sisters and a brother.
