Richard dispelled gay rumors about him after he proposed to his girlfriend turned fiancée Samantha Colley. The couple appeared together in the film The Crucible, where Richard played John Proctor and Samantha played Abigail Williams.
Their on-screen romance carried over into their personal lives, and the couple began dating before getting engaged in June of 2016. Their relationship, however, did not last long, and the couple eventually split up. Samantha has also moved on from her relationship with Richard, and she is now married.
Richard also dated English actress Annabel Capper before his relationship with his ex-fiancée.
