Darlene delved a little deeper into her history and struggles as an aspiring female news reporter in an interview with Power 105.1’s EmEz. She discussed her childhood in the Bronx and how, thanks to her mother’s influence, she was inspired to become a journalist at the age of eight.
“Well, it’s funny because I grew up in the Bronx, and I’ve wanted to do this job since I was eight years old, as you mentioned.” My mother was a news junkie who watched it every day and ate it up, and I just admired the people I saw and wanted to tell stories about them.She also stated that her circumstances as a Puerto Rican were difficult and that pursuing her dream was more difficult than she had anticipated.

So it took a lot of hustle, a lot of determination, a lot of people telling me ‘it’s not going to work,’ ‘you have a new york accent,’ ‘it’s not going to work,’ ‘it’s not going to work, you don’t have any experience,’ ‘it’s not going to work, you don’t know anyone in this business,’ and just telling yourself over and over again, ‘no-no, it’sShe admitted to being a proud New Yorker and shared a story about how the people of New York came together to help each other and those in need, and how small communities that stick together to help each other and those in need are the true pride of New York.
She also got into discussions about the current state and outlook of the news media, as well as what she thinks about it right now, and a variety of other topics.
