Chuck Rosenberg served as an Assistant US Attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia from 1994 to 2000.

He served as the FBI Director’s counsel from 2002 to 2003 and as the Attorney General’s counsel from 2003 to 2004.

In 2006, he was appointed US Attorney for the Eastern District of Vergina by the president. His tenure lasted until 2008.

In 2007, he testified in the government’s death penalty case against Zacarias Moussaoui.

He was a private counselor at Huston and Williams from 2000 to 2002, and a partner at Hogan Lovells US LLP from 2008 to 2013.

He was appointed Chief of Staff to the FBI Director in 2013 and retained this position until 2015.

During his tenure as a federal prosecutor, he served as the lead trial attorney in several cases involving espionage, kidnapping, homicide, and offenses against humanity.

In May 2015, he succeeded Michele Leonhart (DEA) as interim director of the Drug Enforcement Administration.

On October 1, 2017, he resigned as DEA administrator and was succeeded by Robert Patterson, the current DEA administrator. He currently serves as a contributor for MSNBC News.
