NBA Debut and Draft
The New Jersey Nets selected Anthony Parker 21st overall in the NBA draft in 1997. Despite this, he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers as part of a multi-player transaction.
Due to his repeated injuries, Anthony was unable to perform properly. As a result, his playing time was drastically reduced.
Before being released in January 2000, he was dealt to the Orlando Magic. Following that, no NBA teams were interested in signing him. To put it another way, Anthony was a failure in the NBA.
Carrier comeback in Euroleague
Parker’s repeated failures in the NBA prompted him to look for a chance to relaunch his basketball career outside of the United States.
However he relocated to Israel in the 2000–01 season, where he was signed by Israeli EuroLeague powerhouse Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Parker first questioned his decision due of the city’s regular explosions. Later on, however, he rapidly adjusted.
He quickly established himself as a valuable member of the team. He wowed the crowd with his scoring, rebounding, blocking, and dunking abilities.
Parker led Maccabi to the Israeli domestic title, the Israeli National Cup, and the FIBA SuproLeague Cup in his debut season.
He then relocated to Italy, where he joined Virtus Roma. He appeared in 27 Serie A games in Italy. Parker had a successful career in the European league overall.
He was also named MVP of the Israeli Basketball Super League, MVP of the EuroLeague Final Four, EuroLeague MVP, and first-team All-EuroLeague for his performance.
