Yoshinobu Yamamoto has agreed to terms with the Los Angeles Dodgers on a 12-year, $325 million contract. This record contract is now the richest ever awarded to a pitcher in baseball history. Gerrit Cole’s previous record of $324 million signed in 2019 is broken. As a result of this historic agreement, the Los Angeles Dodgers have made an unparalleled financial commitment.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Shohei Ohtani will each receive more than a billion dollars. The New York Yankees chased Yamamoto hard, according to Jon Heyman of The New York Post, offering a $300 million contract. Concurrently, Mike Puma of The New York Post reported that the New York Mets responded by matching the Dodgers’ offer.
The Yankees’ desire to acquire Yamamoto’s talents was obvious as they sought to boost a rotation led by Gerrit Cole. The Dodgers eventually won this high-stakes bidding war, acquiring one of baseball’s most sought-after pitchers.
