Leslie, Alyssa’s mother, was a well-known pop singer in the US. Her musical career began in 2001 when she collaborated with DreamWorks Records to release the track “Like Wow!” The song was well-received and was featured on the Shrek album. It peaked at position #15 on the Hot 100 list.
Carter had intended to release an album with the same name, but that plan was eventually shelved. Leslie then went on to establish The Other Half, a band that performed from 2006 to 2009. The backup musicians in the band were Dave Thompson, Paul Davidson, Casey Clowater, Mike Ashton, and DJ Porter in addition to her.
Leslie made her TV debut on the family reality series House of Carters, around the same time she started her own band. The eight-episode series followed the family as they attempted to get back together.
