At a young age, Edouard Mendy began participating in junior clubs. He enrolled in the youth academy in Le Havre when he was 13 years old. From 2006 to 2011, he was a player for CS Municipaux Le Havre. In 2011, he started playing football professionally when he joined Cherbourg. In 2014, he was expelled from the club and ceased to be a member.
After a year without a club, he began to doubt his future. When he was 22 years old, he applied for unemployment and started looking for work. His fortunes altered when Marseille hired him as a fourth-choice goalkeeper in 2015. He also served as the club’s reserves’ backup goalkeeper during the 2015–16 campaign.
Édouard signed on with League 2 team Reims in 2016. He made himself the club’s starting goalkeeper quite fast. Additionally, he managed the team to win Ligue 2 for the 2017–18 season and gain promotion to Ligue 1 while recording 18 clean sheets in 34 contests. After a standout campaign with Reims, where he signed for an unknown sum, he joined Rennes in 2019.
He was just a member of the team for one season, but he was instrumental in their third-place league finish and UEFA Champions League qualification.
Édouard Mendy agreed to a 22 million pound five-year contract in September 20202 with English club Chelsea. He additionally broke other records by maintaining a string of clean sheets. In the UEFA Champions League final in 2020–2021, Chelsea defeated Manchester City thanks in large part to him.
He had the option of representing Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, or France internationally. He also played for Guinea-Bissau in friendlies against Estoril and Belenenses of Portugal.
During the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, he represented Senegal. Additionally, Senegal came in second place even though he was injured and removed from the team before Senegal’s last group-stage match.
