Gehlfuss and Matsuda kept their 2016 wedding from the public eye. The wonderful news was then revealed to everyone a few days after his wedding. The couple married on May 13, 2016, but did not share wedding photos until two days later, on May 15. He captioned one of his photographs with a wonderful D. H. Lawrence quote. On May 17, he confirmed the news to People magazine while discussing his wedding and honeymoon plans.
“I wanted to invite a lot of my cast mates, but because we’re a franchise, I would have had to invite the entire Chicago franchise,” he said of his plans for a celebration. The couple had a “grand wedding in Ohio” on Friday the 13th.
He’d spent some of their vacation time in New York promoting Chicago Med. Gehlfuss and Matsuda had planned to travel to Japan, a country with which she has a connection because her mother is half-Japanese. Matsuda was available to marry the couple. She previously worked at Viceroy Hotel Group in Los Angeles, California, from June 2014 to August 2015. She currently works for Illinois Action for Children as the Director of Advocacy, a position she has held since December 2021.
